R12.2 file system architecture and their concepts
Hi DBA-Mates,
I am working on R12.2 now a days. And as we all are knowing that how much it is important in market now a days. R12.2 is very hot in the market and everyone wants to learn it. Every Oracle customers are moving to R12.2 now a days.
I have learned it and want to share some ideas about it.
I have completed R12.2.0 full installation from scratch, because that time no one was to teach me. But I did it. I have installed R12.2.0 after a very hard work.
I have done Upgrade also to R12.2.5. Its took time for me because I was doing first time without any support. But really I enjoyed it.
I don't want go through all the story, lets move to topic :D.
Below are the some Important points and commands, which will be very useful to you people who started learning R12.2 Oracle applications.
• R12.2.0 have dual
filesystem referred as fs1 and fs2 which alternates between ‘run’ and ‘patch’
with every patching cycle at the end, means after cutover.
•
Next is fs_ne non-editioned filesystem which is used to store files needed across all
filesystems like log files, patch files etc.
ex : PATCH_TOP, ADOP_LOG_HOME
ex : PATCH_TOP, ADOP_LOG_HOME
•
The run and patch file system, here each use a different s_port_pool.
•
In which few ports are same for both fs1 &
fs2.
For example: s_webport, s_rpcport, s_java_object_cache_port
For example: s_webport, s_rpcport, s_java_object_cache_port
•
The OPMN only manages Oracle HTTP Serve.
Below are the Dual file system diagram. which will be helpful to understanding.

Some
Important commands are the below:
$echo $FILE_EDITION
$echo $RUN_BASE
$echo $PATCH_BASE
$echo $NE_BASE
$echo $TWO_TASK
$. $HOME/EBSapps.env patch
This above command will be helping in Switch between File system Editions.
DB RUN EDITION:
Run: Online users connect to this edition, which is always the default database edition. The run edition will always exist.
DB PATCH EDITION:
Patch: Patching tools connect to this edition. A child of the run edition, the patch edition exists only while a patching cycle is in progress.
Old: When a patch edition is promoted to be the run edition, the previous run edition is now regarded as an old edition.
There may be zero or more old editions at a given time. They are discarded when a full cleanup is performed. You cannot connect to an old edition.

ReplyDeleteHi,
Your welcome. nice to see you here.
Thanks.
hi can you tell me what is exactly EDITION BASED REDEFINITION IN R12.2.X
ReplyDelete
DeleteHi Yeshwanth,
This is R12.2.0. Please let me know for any confirmations.
Thanks,
DeleteDear Yeshwanth,
Above answer is not proper answer. It may be replied in hurry or without reading full query.
Actually Edition-Based Redefinition (EBR) enable us to make change/upgrade an application’s database objects while the using application, thus it minimize or eliminate the down time.
IF you ask me in depth as per my understanding, while we do apply patches . it will apply in Patch file system and it will not effect run file system So, in between these time gap the changes are hold in Editions based of database because when run prepare phase, it will create a editioned based database.
Hope this may clear now.
Thanks & Regards,
